![]() ![]() I built a small outpost at the end of my main hellavator and started flattening out hell. I wanted plenty of room to move around and to not have to worry about running into things, since I'm not the best at combat. I also decided to do something about hell for the upcoming (at some point) Wall Of Flesh fight. These ended up cutting through the ocean, corruption and dungeon to show a few locations. I decided to dig many hellavators, spaced equally through the world, to help reduce the spread. However, they cautioned, smashing demon altars would spawn new corrupted blocks in random locations, making the whole point moot. To do that, I read about people digging large shafts in their world to prevent the spread of the new biomes. I decided I wanted to avoid the "entire world is taken over" effects. It was around this time that I begin to read more in-depth about what the Hardmode corruption / hallow does to the world, as I was pretty unfamiliar with the mechanics. I dug a hellavator for my base (going to the bottom of hell and the top of the world) and made an underground tunnel from one end of the map to the other. I rarely use it, but it sure looks neat: normal, activated. For blood moons, I used a large wire system that seals my base and activates the "warning lights". Above the arena is a converted floating island, which acts as a vile mushroom farm - flipping the nearby switch harvests the farm using dart traps. I added an obsidian generator below and a small corrupted boss arena nearby - the lava makes the ebonstone heart appear to "beat" at night. In order to have the ores (which act like magnets, I guess) glow more noticeably at night, I also used wire to turn off the torches, which doesn't invalidate the house. In particular, I designed my NPC housing to fit in a circle, which "levitates" above my house. ![]() My designs for this world are heavily based on circles, as you might notice from my house. It's heavily inspired by this base that I saw around the time I started, and I decided I wanted a pretty large, comprehensive base. So I started work on my house, which I more-or-less conceived on the first few hours of my play-through. Instead, I decided that I would use my (powerful) items and tools to skip making basic wood huts and that sort of thing that you do at the beginning of the game. I went against the grain and didn't reset my character. When the 1.1 update came out, I decided to get back into Terraria. I got Molten armor / tools and some decent weapons. I was playing with a friend at the time and he eventually had to stop playing, so I finished the game as best I could. To put this in context, I played Terraria for a month or so after it first went on sale during the 2011 Steam Summer Sale. If you're avoiding spoilers about current game content (1.1), this post contains plenty, so you might want to steer clear. Someone suggested that the general /r/gamingĬommunity might be interested, so I decided to cross-post here. I've posted my house a few times on /r/Terraria and I thought to share my world with them.
